"Quinta do Ameal – Enoturismo (wine tourism) is a heritage site, dating back to 1710, of rare natural beauty. Nestled in an upper mountain valley overlooking the Lima River with fantastic views, the visitor’s eye is often transfixed by the variety in the natural landscape, the wildlife and wild flowers. It is a small estate home, however it  gives one a sense of great open spaces.

From the moment you enter the grand carved granite gate, the rosy façade greets you, reflecting lovely Portuguese sunsets.  Live-in owner, Pedro Araujo, is pleased to help you feel at home in his sheik country home where he maintains highest standards of accommodations, a welcoming creative interior décor, with alluring vistas.  There are five individual rooms with double beds and private entries to a patio that takes you back to nature.  Three of the rooms are actually complete suites with living rooms and kitchenettes, adjoining a luxurious pool, plus there is an independent cottage, made into two suites, each one with a double bed and all the extras are available.

The refurbishment of several old houses already existing on the property was completed in May 2014. These houses and suites are completely equipped and decorated for the visitor to take advantage of every convenient comfort without having to leave the Quinta, with real luxury integrated with typical Minho simplicity.
This enotourism quinta of a total of 30 hectares is set within granite walls and a little less than half, 12 hectares, are planted with totally organic vines. The remaining land is a unique and fantastic forest covering 8 hectares which includes a large variety of trees amongst which 200 year old pine and oak trees, beautiful gardens and more than 800 meters of the Lima River waterfront. Within this superb and idyllic space visitors can stop and relax, taking advantage of all of the naturally positive energies.

Excellent white wines made from a Portuguese grape variety called Loureiro are cultivated and produced here. This grape reaches its greatest aromatic and tasty expression in this incredibly beautiful Lima Valley region.  Wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown organically on our own estate, based on the philosophy of production which translates into focusing more attention and energy on the vine, thereby producing grapes of high quality and excellence, thus creating a unique local wine with great personality and character. Exported to more than 15 countries, Ameal is on many of the best and most demanding restaurants wine lists in the world, as well as some of the most prestigious shops.

The surrounding area offers a variety of other activities to compliment your stay.  These include: kayaking down the River Lima or surfing on the beautiful Atlantic Ocean  beaches only 20 kilometres away, mountain walks, bicycle rides and country rambling along the well known "eco via” which follows over 40 kilometres of the River Lima.  It is six km to Ponte de Lima, 8 eight km to the wetlands park Lagoas, which  offers horse riding and charrette trips with picnics in the parklands or to some of the fine restaurants in Ponte de Lima.  Various lively country markets and fairs as well as a selection of excellent restaurants make up part of the offerings of this unique area of the Lima Valley."
