Description
The project of the building was commissioned in 1893 withthe architect António Adelino de Magalhães Moutinho and the construction work started the year after, being inaugurated on September 19th, 1896. The building has seen its worst days during the 80ies (in the 20th century), which lead to the municipality buying the building, in order to recover it, being re-inaugurated in 1999.
Today it works as a location for public cultural service, having a regular program in various areas, especially for theatre, music and dance, between the months of September and May.
The town hall is responsible for the management of the municipal cultural agenda, the publication and publicising of big events, preparing the program for auditoriums and open spaces, the organization of exhibitions and conferences, the production of all kinds of shows and planning cultural activities contracted by the town hall and in partnership with several other institutions.
