Description
Located in the imposing building known as "Paço do Marquês" ("palace of the marquis"), built in the second half of the 15th century, as the residence of the Captain-General Leonel Lima, the interpretation centre for military history of Ponte de Lima is the result of a contract
signed between the Portuguese army and Ponte de Lima's town council in 2011.
The centre shows the importance of Ponte de Lima from a geostrategic point of view. It starts with the Roman period and tells us, in a travel through time, about the main military - related episodes that happened in this small historical town and its surroundings. At the same time it also shows the evolution of weaponry and uniforms. In addition several military figures are remembered: those that were born in Ponte de Lima; that have a strong bond with the region; that distinguished themselves in other war scenarios and in high military and diplomatic functions in the global context of Portugal's history.
