Ponte de Lima, the oldest town in Portugal, has his Charter since 1125. Strategically well located, it has a defensive system of stone since the 14th century. Today there are still traces like the two of the towers and part of the wall. Find out what the Medieval Wall can offer you!




1. Begin at the right bank of the river where the inscription represents the beginning of the construction of the wall. It was integrated in the wall of the "old" tower, the oldest one that served as a toll and protection to the bridge.





2. Enjoy the bridge over the Lima and head towards the São Paulo Tower. Here enjoy you may the marks of the river floods, the most recent are on the facade facing the river but the oldest, the Gothic is on the side wall near the ground.



3. Continue to walk through the wall, which you can not see but is hidden between the houses. Arriving at the Old Jail Tower, take the opportunity to collect information from the Interactive Tourism Store. This tower served as a chain from the XV century to the XX century.




4. Go trough Porta Nova next to the tower and go up the stairs from the wall to the Adarve. From here you can see the river Lima and feel what a medieval lookout has felt more than 650 years.




5. End this experience visiting the Military History Interpretation Center of the of Ponte de Lima, installed in the Paço do Marquês, a noble building dating back to the 15th century and now adapted to show the military emblematic history of Ponte de Lima!
