The rehabilitation and remodeling of the Lima river dam has allowed for better conditions for the practice of canoeing, and the intervention was carried out under the Environmental Improvement and Recovery Project on the banks of the Lima river, through a solution that guarantees the hydraulic structure of the reservoir, providing flow conditions. In this way a unique technique was introduced in the county, which made it possible to carry out an intervention that ensures the fundamental conditions for the practice of canoeing and for the improvement of the landscape.

In a clear bet on Nautical Tourism, the Municipality of Ponte de Lima approved and completed the project of Expansion of the Facilities of the Nautical Club, which was named "Fernando Pimenta Nautical Center", a symbolic tribute to the Olympic canoeist and local athlete Fernando Pimenta.

The construction of this new equipment was designed for the organization of large national and international sporting events. The new "Fernando Pimenta Nautical Center" connects with the current facilities, functioning as a single space, which allows for new valences directed to support the practice of nautical activities.

These conditions, coupled with the extensive experience of Ponte de Lima in welcoming and organizing large events, have contributed to Ponte de Lima hosting another international sporting event.

In this context, the Mayor of Ponte de Lima, Victor Mendes, considers that Ponte de Lima has the required conditions with view to the promotion and dynamism of nautical tourism. The mayor revealed that "we want Ponte de Lima to be a reference in the national and international panorama".

In turn, the Portuguese Canoe Federation communicated that "it is confident with the conditions of the Lima river and the organization of the Nautical Club of Ponte de Lima and the commitment of the Municipality of Ponte de Lima in this first International organization."
